On September 25th, the Volvo went into the shop for an oil change. In so doing, the dealership mechanics discovered a plethora of problems, from a bent front suspension, to collapsed engine mounts. The sum total of fixing these problems are, according to Kelley Blue Book, more than the car is worth. (This doesn’t include the cost of repairing the A/C, the loose back panel, or the rust on the hood.) What does this mean? On September 30th, Emily and I bought our first new car together, and my first car-buying excursion ever. After much hemming and hawing, and some surprisingly intensive bargaining, we came out with a pretty decent bargain on a top-of-the-line, fully loaded ’04 Honda Accord EX. More car than we were aiming for, but at a price we were willing to pay!
